How the order works
Five questions put to every resort, answered in sentences instead of scores.
We judge the stay
Our lens is the guest's: where the hotel is, what the building is like, how well you sleep there and what you can reach on foot. A gaming hall carries the same weight in our notes as a laundry room, which is to say none.
Sentences, not scores
There are no points, stars or blended reader ratings anywhere on surbiusio. A place on the list is an editorial decision, and each review spells out why.
Nothing to buy
Placement cannot be purchased by any hotel, brand or marketing firm, whether to get on the list or to move up it. Our outbound links hold no affiliate codes, commission tags or booking tools.
Five questions per hotel
| Question | What a good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Surroundings | You would travel here even without the hotel, and plenty is reachable on foot, by tram or by boat. |
| Building | The architecture, history or site leaves an impression that outlasts checkout. |
| Rooms | Good size, real daylight, a view worth opening the curtains for, and no weak tower to avoid. |
| Beyond the bedroom | Pools, spas, restaurants, gardens or stages that would make the trip worthwhile with the casino shut. |
| Ideal guest | A clear picture of who will love it, condensed into the "Best for" line. |
Refresh cycle
We reread the whole list on a fixed rhythm and again whenever a resort announces a new name, a big renovation or a shutdown. The month next to the list heading tells you when that last happened.
