Top 10 Casino Hotels

Somewhere inside each of these resorts there is a gaming floor, and it counted for nothing in the order. What decides the order is the walk from the lift to the window, the bed, the breakfast and the streets outside after sundown. Tap a row and its review unfolds right beneath it.

Staying at Wynn Palace

Wynn Palace takes a different approach to arrival from most Cotai resorts. Instead of walking in off a busy boulevard, guests can board the SkyCab, a line of air-conditioned gondola cabins that drift around the Performance Lake before docking at the building. Inside, the public halls are dressed with oversized floral sculptures that change through the year. Rooms are wide and calm, with deep window bays, and a lake-facing floor puts the fountain shows directly beneath the glass.

The resort is large but well organised, so the hotel lifts, spa and restaurants feel separated from the gaming level rather than threaded through it. The spa is among the more serious in Macau, with private treatment suites and a heated pool for unhurried afternoons. Taipa Village, with its tiled Portuguese houses, small bakeries and old temples, is a short ride away, and the bridges to the peninsula open up the historic centre for a day of walking.

Night out nearbyThe lake's fountain shows play through the evening, and the restaurant lanes of Taipa Village are a brief taxi ride away.

Best forCouples and first-time Macau visitors who want a calm, polished base where the lake view is the main event.

Staying at Encore Boston Harbor

Encore Boston Harbor rises on the bank of the Mystic River in Everett, on land that was once industrial and has since been cleaned up and planted. The hotel tower is curved and clad in bronze-tinted glass, and its rooms lean toward soft colours and generous beds, with many windows looking south across the water to the Boston skyline. Opened in June 2019, it remains one of the newest large hotels in the area.

The ground around the building has become a public park with lawns, benches and a waterside walking path, which gives early risers somewhere pleasant to stretch their legs before breakfast. Inside you will find a spa, a pool and restaurants that run from relaxed counters to dressy dining rooms. Central Boston lies a few miles south, so the Freedom Trail, the North End and the brick lanes of Beacon Hill make an easy outing without moving hotels.

Night out nearbyAssembly Row in Somerville, just over the river, gathers restaurants, a cinema and late-opening shops in one walkable strip.

Best forTravellers who prefer to see the Boston skyline from across the water rather than from inside the city grid.
No.3
Retro Macau streets

Lisboeta Macau

A playful resort that rebuilds the look of old Macau street life

Cotai, Macau
  • Themed streets
  • Pool
  • Dining
  • Outdoor rides
  • Opened on Cotai in the early 2020s
  • Streetscapes styled on mid-century Macau
  • Several hotels share one compact complex

official site ↗

Staying at Lisboeta Macau

Lisboeta borrows its personality from Macau's own past. Rather than imitating Venice or Paris, the complex recreates the shopfronts, neon signage and tiled facades that lined the city's streets in the middle of the twentieth century, so a walk to dinner feels a little like stepping into an old photograph. Several hotels sit within the development, offering a choice between brighter, younger rooms and quieter, more grown-up ones, all sharing the same pools and public spaces.

Because the resort is newer and smaller than the Cotai giants, the distance from room to restaurant stays short, which is a relief in humid summer weather. Outdoor attractions, including a zipline above the grounds, add something for guests who would rather be active than lie by the pool. Taipa Village is close by for egg tarts and Macanese cooking, and the larger Cotai resorts and their shows are within reach whenever a bigger evening is wanted.

Night out nearbyTaipa Village stays lively after dark with small bars and Macanese kitchens, a few minutes away by taxi.

Best forYounger travellers and design fans who like Macau's history as a backdrop rather than a museum visit.

Desert-edge outlook

M Resort Spa Casino

A calmer tower south of the Strip with the whole skyline in view

Henderson, Nevada
  • Skyline views
  • Spa
  • Pool
  • Dining
  • Opened in 2009
  • Operated by PENN Entertainment
  • The Strip a short drive north
From the roomThe Strip on the horizon
official site ↗

Staying at M Resort Spa Casino

M Resort stands on its own at the southern tip of the Las Vegas Valley, where Henderson meets open desert. That separation is its main appeal: rooms look north toward the full sweep of the Strip skyline, which glitters at night without any of its crowds or noise below the window. Opened in 2009 and now operated by PENN Entertainment, the resort has light, modern interiors and floor-to-ceiling glass in its rooms.

Days tend to settle around the pool deck, which faces the mountains, and the spa that gives the resort part of its name. Several restaurants on site, from relaxed to dressier, mean there is no need to drive anywhere for dinner. When the desert calls, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, known for its ancient rock art, lies a short drive away, while the Strip itself is only a quick ride north on the interstate.

Night out nearbyThe Strip's shows and lights are roughly twenty minutes north by car, so an evening there still ends in a quiet room.

Best forDrivers and repeat Las Vegas visitors who would rather look at the Strip from a distance than sleep in the middle of it.

Lake Geneva palace

Hôtel Royal, Evian Resort

A 1909 palace hotel in a lakeside park above the town of Évian

Évian-les-Bains, France

  • Spa
  • Park
  • Fine dining
  • Opened in 1909 above Lake Geneva
  • Evian Resort's casino is down in the town
  • Lake boats cross to Lausanne

official site ↗

Staying at Hôtel Royal, Evian Resort

The Hôtel Royal was conceived as a grand palace hotel and opened in 1909, set in a wooded park on the hillside above Évian-les-Bains. From most of its rooms the view runs straight out over Lake Geneva to the Swiss shore, with mountains rising behind. Interiors pair period detail with restrained modern comfort, and the long terraces invite slow breakfasts while the light shifts across the water through the morning.

Evian Resort groups the Royal with a second hotel, a spa and a casino down in the town centre, so the gaming rooms are a short ride away rather than under the same roof. The spa focuses on water-based treatments, a fitting choice in a town known for its mineral springs. Down the hill, a lakeside promenade, old villas and a public spring fountain fill an easy afternoon, and boats from the port cross the lake to Lausanne.

Night out nearbyÉvian's lakefront promenade fills with diners on summer evenings, and a small funicular links the upper and lower town.

Best forA slow lakeside break in the French Alps for travellers who rate views and quiet above nightlife.

Island high-rise

Grand Hyatt Jeju

Twin towers that give Jeju its highest rooms and widest views

Jeju City, South Korea
  • Sea views

  • Spa
  • Dining
  • Opened in 2020
  • Jeju's tallest building
  • Jeju International Airport a short drive away

Staying at Grand Hyatt Jeju

Jeju Dream Tower rose over Jeju City in 2020 and is now the island's tallest building, a pair of linked towers whose stepped glass profile is visible from much of the town. The Grand Hyatt occupies most of it, and its rooms are notably roomy for a city hotel, many of them arranged as suites. On clear days the higher floors look one way to the volcanic bulk of Hallasan and the other way toward the sea.

An outdoor pool deck sits partway up the building, open to the island breeze, and the complex holds a spa, a shopping arcade and many restaurants covering Korean, Chinese and international cooking. Jeju International Airport is only a short taxi ride away, which suits a quick island weekend. From here, coastal paths, lava-tube caves and green tea fields are all reachable by car, so the hotel works as a comfortable base rather than a destination in itself.

Night out nearbyThe streets around the tower are busy with grill restaurants late into the evening, and Dongmun Market's night stalls are a short taxi ride away.

Best forIsland road trips that need a comfortable city base close to the airport.
No.7
Downtown renewal

MGM Grand Detroit

A sleek downtown tower for exploring Detroit's revived centre

Detroit, Michigan
  • City views
  • Spa
  • Pool
  • Dining
  • Permanent resort opened in 2007
  • Spa and indoor pool on site
  • Downtown theatres within a short ride
Within reachWoodward Avenue theatres
official site ↗

Staying at MGM Grand Detroit

MGM Grand Detroit opened its permanent building in 2007 on the western side of downtown, and its hotel tower brought a sleek, modern style to a city better known for grand old office blocks. Rooms are dark-toned and contemporary with large windows, and higher floors take in the downtown skyline. It makes a practical base for exploring a city centre that has seen a great deal of renewal over the past two decades.

The spa and indoor pool make winter stays more comfortable, and the dining choice inside covers everything from quick meals to a more formal evening. Outside, the Detroit Institute of Arts and its Diego Rivera murals sit a short ride up Woodward Avenue in Midtown, while the Riverwalk offers a long waterfront path. The Detroit People Mover loops around downtown on an elevated track, handy for getting about without a car.

Night out nearbyThe Fox Theatre and neighbouring venues on Woodward Avenue host concerts and touring shows, and Greektown's restaurants are close by.

Best forCity weekends built around museums, architecture and live performance in a downtown on the rebound.

  • Broadbeach beach within walking distance

official site ↗

Staying at The Darling at The Star Gold Coast

Of the hotels at The Star Gold Coast, this is the smallest and most private, tucked into a resort complex on Broadbeach Island in the middle of the coast's southern stretch. Every room is a suite, finished in soft neutrals with deep baths and broad windows, and depending on the side the view runs out to the Pacific or back over the Nerang River toward the green hinterland behind it.

Guests share the resort's pools and spa, and restaurants across the complex cover everything from casual meals to special-occasion dinners. The beach at Broadbeach is a short walk east, with patrolled sand and a long oceanfront path. The G:link light rail stops nearby and runs north to Surfers Paradise and south toward the shopping centre at Pacific Fair, so a car is optional for most of the stay.

Night out nearbyBroadbeach's dining streets around Surf Parade and Oracle Boulevard stay busy into the evening, all a short walk away.

Best forCouples who want a quiet suite and the beach on foot, with Surfers Paradise only a tram ride away.

Staying at Sibaya

Sibaya sits on a hilltop of coastal bush on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, and its design takes cues from Zulu tradition, with sweeping roofs, earthy colours and craft details throughout. The resort includes a lodge with a modest number of rooms, set apart from the busier entertainment areas, so overnight guests get a quieter corner with terraces looking over the greenery. It is operated by Sun International, one of the region's best-known hotel groups.

The rest of the complex holds a theatre for musicals and concerts, plus restaurants ranging from family dining to grills and curry houses, the latter a nod to Durban's well-known Indian food heritage. The beaches of Umhlanga and uMdloti are only minutes away by car, with warm Indian Ocean water for much of the year. King Shaka International Airport is close, making Sibaya easy to combine with a longer trip up the coast.

Night out nearbyUmhlanga's seafront promenade and village restaurants, a short drive south, make an easy dinner outing with sea air.

Best forShort coastal breaks near Durban that pair warm-water beaches with a quiet lodge room.

Staying at Iguazú Grand Resort Spa & Casino

Iguazú Grand is a low-rise resort on the edge of Puerto Iguazú, the Argentine town that serves as the gateway to one of the world's great waterfalls. Its buildings are arranged around gardens and pools, with the warm, humid air of the subtropical forest never far away. Rooms are spacious and comfortable in a classic style, which suits a place where most guests spend long days outdoors and come back tired and happy.

Iguazú National Park is a short drive away, with walkways leading to viewpoints over the falls and to the edge of the Devil's Throat, where the river plunges in a roaring curtain of spray. The Brazilian side, with its own panoramic trails, can fill a separate day. Closer to town, a landmark marks the confluence where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay face each other across the water, and the spa offers welcome recovery afterwards.

Night out nearbyPuerto Iguazú's compact centre has grill houses and craft stalls, and the three-border viewpoint draws a crowd at sunset.

Best forA falls-focused trip in Misiones that wants resort comfort after long days on rainforest walkways.
Ground rules

Four promises behind the order

01

Judged from the pillow up

We note the casino once, much as we would note a parking garage, and then move on. The verdict rests on everything else: how the building meets its street or shoreline, how still the bedrooms are at night, what the window frames at sunrise and how far an evening stroll can carry you.

Every review finishes with a short "Best for" note, a quick test of whether the hotel and your plans belong together.

02

No envelope changed hands

We have never taken money, free nights or favours from a resort, hotel chain, tourism board or agency, and none of them can lift a hotel up the order or soften a sentence. Outbound links are bare addresses of official hotel pages, with no referral tails, booking boxes or trackers bolted on.

Owing nobody anything makes it easy to name the flaws, like a slow lift lobby or a pool deck that is full by mid-morning.

03

Ring the front desk before packing

Hotels relabel room categories, shut towers for refits and shuffle opening hours. Use this list to narrow the choice, then put three questions to the hotel in writing: which tower your room sits in, whether building work overlaps your nights, and what the deposit and cancellation rules actually say.

Peak holidays and large conventions fill rooms months out, and sliding a trip by a few days frequently unlocks a nicer room.

04

If you play, play small

Casino floors are for grown-ups, and every destination sets its own entry age. Anyone choosing to play should treat the stake as a fixed price for the evening, agreed with yourself before dinner, with bank cards left upstairs. Once that price is paid, the night at the tables is over. Not one of these hotels needs a bet to justify the journey.

When gambling starts to feel like a weight instead of a pastime, discreet help costs nothing; our Stay in control page points the way.

surbiusio.com is written and funded by a small independent team. Gambling of any kind is absent from these pages, no gaming company gets promoted, and none of the resorts below has paid us a cent. Each review is assembled from official and public sources and reread often, yet a hotel can swap a restaurant or redraw a room plan overnight, so double-check whatever your trip depends on with the property. Hotel names stay with their owners; we repeat them only so you know which building we mean. Read the fine detail on our Usage terms and Independence pages.
